Conservation
The Finnish National Gallery has been committed to conservation and restoration since 1886. The Conservation Department is an independent research unit that takes care of the collection and exhibition objects. The Finnish National Gallery’s Conservation Department provides crucial services by researching materials and techniques used in artworks and developing conservation treatments. It is also responsible for conservation industry communications and training. The Conservation Department has three conservation studios with modern equipment and facilities for conservation, restoration and research. The main studio is located in the Ateneum building. The other two are located in the Kiasma and Sinebrychoff buildings respectively. Each studio specialises in a particular area of conservation that reflects the applicable museum’s collections.
