Väinö Kunnas (1896-1929), who was also one of the Torch Bearers' believed in modernism; the city was to be depicted as it appeared: the stone walls, the light on the severe tin roofs, siloutted chimneys against a smoke-filled sky, asphalted streets, concrete walls, windows, the frightening, unprecedented expansion of the city.
