Sulho Sipilä

Luistinrata

Sulho Sipilä (1895-1949) was originally close to the Torch Bearers in his outlook. He kindled easily to new phenomena and was an artist whose intimate townscapes, which are often also defined as naivist, are based on a strong spirit of experimentation. But Sipilä's town is not the classicist and melancholy or threatening and deserted expanse of concrete as portrayed by the many other townscapists of the period. It is rather a modern world containing ships and harbours and reflecting signs of the modern age. [NEXT PAGE]
