Alexander Lauréus

Metsästäjät nuotiolla linnanraunion luona

Being an artist of the romantic era, Lauréus was interested in depicting light. In the pictures of vagabonds and highwaymen strong firelight effects, nocturnal bondfires, conflagrations and burning candles lent drama to the already evocative subjects. The subject of A Peasant Dance was more restful, and so the handling of light is also different. Lauréus has wanted to emphasize the idyllic nature of peasant life by letting the soft and even light of a winter's day spread through a window over the dancing crowd and musicians. [NEXT PAGE]
