More successful than Gustaf Wilhelm Finnberg in satisfying his clients was Johan Erik Lindh (1793-1865), a former decorator who had moved from Sweden to Finland. Quick, cheap, achieving a fair likeness, without great ideals or momentous aims, Lindh was the only artist of the 1830s in Finland who was able to make a living purely by his art.  [NEXT PAGE]
