The Biedermeier EraBourgeois geniality, a slight and sometimes even pronounced sweetness, precise and detailed excecution - all these attributes are connected with the Biedermeier style. Finnish Biedermeier can add to the list genuine naiveness and a realistic undertone.
In Finland the arrival of the Biedermeier style complemented the
established artistic idioms with free painting that was independent of
the client. Landscapes, scenes from literature, ordinary life and
history were now painted. Art was valued for itself more than
previously and in the background loomed larger than ever the goals of
national awakening.
