The scenery of the Häme province became the solid foundation of
Holmberg's art; in the environs of Tampere he saw what seemed to him
most important in the Finnish landscape.
Storm on Näsijärvi
(1860),
Finnish Hop Garden
(1860),
Mail Road
(1860) were all created in 1860, the last year of the artist's life.
In these works the artist's aim is no longer to describe the landscape in
minute detail, but to convey its atmosphere: a sultry hot day, a cloud of dust
raised by a passing mail coach, a menacing storm gathering over lake Näsijärvi.
