Hjalmar Munsterhjelm (1840-1905) and
Berndt Lindholm
(1841-1914) were as landscape painters close followers of Werner Holmberg.
Both artists based their work on a worship of nature in the Düsseldorf
spirit.
Hjalmar Munsterhjelm
wanted to see nature as a whole entity,
rather as an atmosphere than a subject of realistic description.
Before the Thunderstorm
from the 1870s is more a
depiction of thunder than of the landscape.
