(1894-5) shows how Ellen
Thesleff emphasized the significance of colour in revealing the content
of a work of art. By minimizing her colour she revealed her own
personality through her 'black colourism':
Three beings in one (myself)
1 the primitive human in me, the one that has always existed
2 the one endowed with emotions and which leads a full life
3 genius, that which can become detached from itself and can see deep into ilself
God is in us all.
