- An exhibition of futuristic utopias in comic strips

August 18 - October 1, 2000
Ateneum, The special exhibitions room.

Yesterday's Tomorrows
ADMISSION:
FIM 30/25/0

The comic strip exhibition Yesterday's Tomorrows takes a look at futuristic utopias from past decades. The theme of the exhibition is not the future itself, but rather the way the artists have seen the future from their own time. The wildest dreams and most outrageous utopias are all reflections of reality.

Rochette The exhibition presents works by European, American and Japanese artists from different eras. It tackles themes such as science, technology and spirituality, technology and society, and body image. The illustrations show how early science-fiction comics were optimistic about the future and opportunities presented by technology in particular. The exhibition also reveals how the classic space heroes of the age of innocence later evolved into mixtures of flesh and metal, transformers.
Organisers: La Centre Belge de la Bande Dessinée, Finnish Comics Society and the Finnish National Gallery. Part of the Helsinki 2000 programme.
