"It`s Always Morning - Somewhere" is a work composed of many elements, which speculates on the meanings and dimensions of time via descriptions of reality, utopias, memories and different experiental perspectives. It physically creates several dimensions - the work is set in a Tongan grave inside which the exhibition visitor steps into Polynesian tradition and modern Western technology. Light, colours, shadows and sounds create for the visitor "globe-time" geography, myths and man`s sociality - in their nomadic, urban and virtual perspectives.
Most of the material used in "It`s Always Morning - Somewhere" has been collected from where millenium time begins, from the Tonga Islands, plus a few of the world`s metropolises. The multimedia installation takes visitors into the midst of Tongan traditions and today, and its glocal virtuality gives them the opportunity of simultaneously pondering the limits and limitlessness of our planet.
The installation is such that it completely surrounds the visitor with images and sounds. The visual aspect consists of some 600 photos and the soundscape of authentic sounds, narratives and music. The installation uses the latest pioneering techniques in this field.

"It`s Always Morning - Somewhere" is the work of photographer Terho Aalto, producer Harri Huhtamäki and sound designer Jim McKee. Ralph Carney, Andrew Higgins and Robert Powell are responsible for the music. Helsinki is a European City of Culture in 2000. The work is part of the Year of Culture programme and will be exhibited at Sinebrychoff Art Museum, 31.12.1999-31.5.2000.
