About the Central Art Archives
Spanning an extensive range of written and visual documents
on Finnish art from the 19th century to the present, the Central
Art Archives comprises a collection of papers, press cuttings,
photographs, prints and audiovisual recordings as well as the
Finnish National Gallery Library. The CAA supports the work
of the Finnish National Gallery and its various units and contributes
to the overall advancement of modern archiving practices in
Finlands art museums. The CAA also engages in independent
art history research, publishing and exhibition projects.
The CAA actively keeps up with the art scene and current
discourse on the definition and interpretation of art. In
its systematic documentation and special projects, it collects
visual material, written records and audiovisual recordings
related to Finnish art, individual artists, art institutions
and the Finnish art scene in general. The collection is also
augmented regularly through donations, acquisitions and material
produced by the in-house Photographic Department. The CAAs
services are intended primarily for art historians and scholars,
but are also available to art students and the general public.
All donations of documentary material on Finnish art history
and contemporary art are gratefully received.
