Publication on artist Ilona Harima

The Central Art Archives’ publication Ilona Harima. Valaistumisen tiellä (Ilona Harima. The road to enlightenment) can now be downloaded for free from the Internet.
The main work is in Finnish, but includes a summary in English.

The publication surveys the work and life of an almost forgotten Finnish woman artist. It was published on November 1, 2011 to mark a focus exhibition on Harima at the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki. In it, Dr. Erkki Anttonen examines Harima’s output from the 1920s to ’60s, works that differ totally from the contemporary mainstream. Harima’s fascination with themes from Hindu and Buddhist culture was extremely unusual in the Finnish art world of the time.
