The Audiovisual Archive

The Audiovisual Archive contains video documentaries and sound recordings related to visual arts, and a media art archive.
The audiovisual resources in the Central Art Archives’ Audiovisual Archive are intended for researchers. The Audiovisual Archive comprises the Sound Archive, video documentaries produced by the Central Art Archives, and media art from Kiasma’s collection. The archive is also a significant resource of Finnish media art history, as it contains safety copies of media art works distributed by AV-arkki, the Distribution Centre for Finnish Media Art, and donations by media artists.

The database on audiovisual material has over 4,000 records. The archive has a tape media archive copy of the stored materials. A viewing copy is also available of some of the materials for viewing at the archive premises. There are approximately 700 sound recordings in the database. The archive has the right to show most of the materials in its premises and a storage right for the safety copies. Some materials are subject to licence. The National Audiovisual Archive (KAVA) has granted the Audiovisual Archive the right to create safety copies of copyrighted media art. You can access the archive database from the Kiasma Library and the archive’s Research Room in the Ateneum building.
