The Ateneum Research Library is the oldest part of the Finnish National Gallery Library. The collections have been expanded since the Ateneum building was completed in 1889. The library collections support research of the art works in the Ateneum Art Museum and Finnish art in general. The library also contains literature on conservation.

The library collections grow by purchases, library exhanges and donations. The library also publishes the Bibliography of Visual art in Finland.

The library has study desks and self-service terminals with access to a variety of resources, including the library database, the Finnish National Gallery’s art registry, and archive materials. Visitors are asked to make an appointment in advance.
