Museum etiquette
Instructions for teachers
Prepare your group for the museum visit. If the students know how to behave in the museum, you can focus on the educational part of your visit. If you are running late and are unable to make the agreed time, please notify the museum information desk staff as soon as possible.
Arriving at the museum. Please report at the ticket desk first. You and your students each receive an admission sticker that must be worn in a visible place, such as the hand, throughout the visit. School bags and coats must be left at the cloakroom. Once everyone is ready, the group steps aside to wait for the guide or sets off to explore the exhibitions with the teacher. If the museum visit is in the middle of a school day, school bags should be left at the school. If the museum visit begins or ends the school day, school bags can be left at the cloakroom.
Stick to the agreed schedule. The guide is only reserved for your group for a specific period of time.
If you have any special requests, please contact the museum information desk in advance. Portable writing boards for various student assignments are available at the cloakroom. Please note that students must never wander around the exhibition halls without direct teacher supervision.
You are responsible for your students. Make sure that they conduct themselves according to the agreed rules and that everyone has a clear picture of what you are doing, where and when.
Instructions for students
Show respectful behaviour
-
Listen carefully for the tour instructions given to you by the staff at the start of your visit.
-
Leave your bag and outer garments at the cloakroom or in a storage locker.
-
Walk quietly and calmly, do not run.
-
Switch off your mobile phone while inside the museum.
-
Stay with your group.
-
Do not eat or drink in the museum premises. If your group has brought a picnic, you must obtain permission from the information desk before starting your picnic.
Do not disturb other visitors
-
People often want to enjoy art in quiet and relaxed surroundings without any disruptions. This does not mean that you should talk in whispers, however. You can discuss the art and ask questions.
Respect your peers
-
Give others the chance to see and hear what the guide tells them.
Respect the displayed cultural heritage
-
Never touch any works of art, museum items, or archive materials. This touching ban means even the lightest touch. Often the done damage is not directly visible, but will show up gradually. As well as paintings, also sculptures get easily damaged or dirty when touched. The touching ban also applies to the bases of the sculptures.
